Celebrate Japanese Culture At This Local Festival

43rd Annual Bunka-Sai Japanese Cultural Festival

Mark Your Calendar For The Annual Bunku-Sai Japanese Cultural Festival

As spring kicks into full swing, you are likely looking for things to do that will get you out of the house and into the sunshine. As you expand your visual horizons, why not expand your cultural horizons as well? On April 25th and 26th, the 43rd Annual Bunku-Sai Japanese Cultural Festival will be held at the Ken Miller Recreation Center (3341 Torrance Boulevard). Both days, the event will run from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission and parking are free!

The Festival is hosted by the Torrance Sister City Association. Through their partnership with their sister city, Kashiwa, Japan, they are able to sponsor programs that further international friendship. Be a part of crossing cultures at this fun event for the whole family.

The Festival will offer education and entertainment, including but not limited to a kimono lecture, kamishibai storytelling, karate, judo, kendo, shodo calligraphy, origami, games for children, classical dance, and a tea ceremony. Bring your anime art down and enter into the drawing contest. Even if you are not an artist, you could still be entered to win in the Festival’s hourly drawings.

Do not worry that all of this fun will leave your stomach grumbling. There will be shaved ice, yakisoba, barbeque plate lunches, curry and rice, spam musubi, and desserts.

Bring your friends and family to enjoy these days of fun and cross-cultural learning!
