How To: Actually Keep Your New Year’s Resolutions in 2016!

Keep Your New Year's Resolutions 2016

A few weeks into 2016, how are you doing on your New Year’s resolutions? Stay on track with this guide!

We’re officially 21 days into 2016. It’s a commonly held belief that 21 days is the amount of time it takes to break or make a habit, so if you’re on track with your New Year’s resolutions – kudos! If not, it’s not too late! Want to make the most of the coming year? Use this handy guide to make it easier to actually keep your New Year’s resolutions in 2016.

  • Break it down. Big-picture resolutions are awesome. They show that you have a vision for your best self, and that’s great! The problem is that measuring progress towards them – and sticking with that progress – isn’t always easy. Take the time to break down your big resolutions into smaller benchmarks. Say you want to lose 25 pounds. Try setting a goal to lose 2 each month, and you’ll be right on track throughout the year!
  • Reward yourself. Keeping your resolutions isn’t always easy, but staying motivated won’t be so hard if you pat yourself on the back for doing it. When you make progress, treat yourself! Just make sure your rewards don’t negate your hard work. For example, splurging at the store isn’t a good reward if you’ve resolved to save money this year.
  • Get help. It’s incredibly difficult to keep yourself accountable. Find friends or family with similar resolutions, and work together towards your goals. Having a partner makes it easier and more fun!
